Ummmm.......hmmmmm..... |
Monday, we awoke in Montville and were driven by the motel owner to his favorite 13.1 k hike. He said, “five, five and a half hours for some, but four hours for you because you look fit.” The trek traverses a rugged rainforest mountain side, starting at a dam and ending at a waterfall.
We were on the very wet, muddy trail about three hours, slogging through and often jumping around mud sections. The jumping over mud due to our host’s admonition to look out for ‘those leaches in the mud’ and then spraying our shoes and legs with anti-friendly leech non-eco-friendly stuff. And wonder of wonder, not a leech. Mimi did get grabbed and scratched by tree vines. At the end, when we reached our car, our shoes were rather large, and our legs splattered. Which brings us to an interesting philosophical juncture in life, “How does one sign into an upscale setting while trailing embarrassing shoes and mud splattered body parts?” The shoes were too bad for the hot tub, and even the out door shower by one of the many pools...but we found a service sink that sufficed for phase one de-mudding. After several more cleanings I am eyeing the microwave. We set off to tour the village and to get to Coles (= Hardings Grocery store) before it closed. Walked another 3k. Yup.
